My name is Priscilla and i just found out 5 days ago that im 7 months pregnant and I turn 16 in 2 weeks. I have been on the Depo birth control shot since may and just had another shot recently, it could be hurting my baby. I think i know who the father is because of the time frame, but he keeps saying its not his, he is 16 and just got engaged. He says that after the baby is born and we do DNA testing and if it is his he will pay child support and he wants visatation rights. But he isnt going to be involved for the rest of my pregnancy. Im afraid that he is going to take my baby away because he has a job and is getting married soon. Im not ready for a baby but i want to keep her. I know my life is over but i love her, i made her, she is in me. adoption isnt an option for me. My parents are really supportive and helping me out as much as they can, but they are deaf so they dont know everything that is going on because most doctors wont provide interperters. Im homeschooled so that is alot easier on me, but my parents are worried that i wont have time for my work or for college. We are in a slump right now because my parents dont have much money for the time being, and i need a job so i can support my baby but i cant get one because ill be at home for so long taking care of her. I need HELP!! I dont know what to do and im very scared.

SWEETIE! I FEEL SO BAD FOR YOU BUT YOU WILL MAKE IT…FOR NOW YOU NEED TO APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE UNTIL YOU GET ON YOUR FEET…YOU WILL MAKE IT AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH YOUR BABY…I ONLY SUGGEST ASSISTANCE BECAUSE OF YOUR SITUATION…WHEN YOU GET ON YOUR FEET AND HAVE THE BABY AND SHE IS AT LEAST A COUPLE OF MONTHS THEN GET A JOB….
        GOOD LUCK!

          Hey Priscilla,
I am a high school teacher, and deal with a lot of teenage pregnancies. It isn’t easy for ANY of my students (I have a student right now due in February). Did you say you were 7months pregnant? How come you didn’t know sooner about your pregnancy?
It can happen–another student of mine found out when she was five months pregnant.
Are you seeing good doctor right now? That would be my first question. My student from last year also hada guy that was LITERALLY deadbeat–and it didn’t change after the baby was born. Rely on your friends and family–not a guy that could care less.
I would DEFINITELY advise trying to graduate–if not for yourself–than at least your baby. It won’t be easy, but easier than answering a question from your child someday asking you why you don’t have a high school diploma. The sense of pride you’ll feel–ESPECIALLY knowing that you REALLY earned this degree–will make you a proud Mama, and your child proud of you.
Remember, you have to start thinking of yourself as a parent and role model.
If you need an ear, email me anytime.
          Good luck.
          -Michele
