My name is SHa’Kyra Williams and I live in Joliet, IL. I am very intrgued by the courage these young women have. I would like all the feedback with the topic that I am gonna propse. I am currently in the process of tryng to open a teenage help center in the surrounding area where i live. What I am trying to do is have it where young teenage mother’s can get the proper care they need for their children as well as the expectant mother’s. This will include but not be limited to Getting your H.S. diploma/GED whichever suits your needs, as well as getting the mother a technical trade/degree, pklacement into a job accordfing to your trade, as well as housing. I want to have a 18 moth program and hopefully all that can be accomplished. I want it to be a center where you can come for advice, support, and prevental measures. All while your children get the childcare while you work towards a grweat future. Thats just a little bit of what Im trying to do. Do you think that this is something that you young women would visit or even consider visiting? It is a known fact that alot(not sure of the percent) of teenage mother’s end up in a dead end job just barely maing ends meet and i want it so that you can avoid those odds and get a great career and be able to support and secure a future for your young child. Your feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and good luck to you all in your journey

I think that sounds like it would be very helpful.

          SHa’Kyra,

I think that you have a wonderful idea and I wish more people in more communities would start programs like that. As a mother of five, I watched many young girls go through so much confusion, depression and fear due to unexpected pregnancies or abortion. In many cases, the parents and grandparents of these girls ended up being the main influence in the child’s life because teh teenage girls had no avenue for their social, educational or personal needs.
Being a young mother is a challenging road and its made more difficult if there isn’t a good education, job opportunity or even the occasional "girls day or night out." It would be such a relief to many young mothers to know there is a place, with people who understand them, where they can go for support.
Check with some area churches to see if they’d like to be a part of your dream, they could help with a variety of issues and offer volunteers. I wish you the very best of luck.

          Sincerely proud of your efforts,

          Trish
