Im 14 years old and just recently found out that im pregnant. Im not sure what to do. Im still in school and would like to continue getting an education. I talked to the father about this and he would like me to have an abortion. I am strongly against abortions and I would rather have the baby. I live with my granparents and have not told them yet but I know that they would rather me have the baby then have an abortion. I am very mature for my age and i have a mentally handicap sister which is now 7. i lived with my parents when she was born and it was hard but i learned alot and i think I would make a good mother. i’ll be 15 when im due, is that too young to be a teenage mother? Any suggestions on what I should do?

        Kayla,

If you want to have the baby do not let your boyfriend or anyone else force you into having an abortion. Fourteen is very young to be a mother, but I do know girls who have had children at 14 and were very good mothers for thier children despite their young age and the circumstances of their pregnancy. It will be possible to continue school and raise a child but it will be more difficult and you might miss out on many opportunities that you would otherwise be able to have. You might consider adoption as an alternative. You could potentially even have an open adoption in which you could still have contact with your child after the adoption. Since you are so young it will be best to have all the support you can get. It is good that it sounds like your grandparents will support your decision to give life to this baby. I would talk to them and let them know about the pregnancy. Best wishes.
