I have wanted to ask someone this for a long time now, but have been afraid too because no one knew I was having sex at that time. Okay….I first started going on Birth control in Feb of this year. my doctor told me to wait at lest one month before doing it unprotected. but we waited only like a week and 1 half. As far as I can remember it crossed my mind about being pregnant but I didn’t think to much about it. but when it came time for my first period on bcp. I was really crampy. I mean i have crampy periods anyway but i thought that bc was to help that. It was so bad that I couldnt hardly drive down the road. I was on my way home from seeing my boyfriend and had to stop at a gas station and pee. ( the trip is about 1 and half hours ) I passed a big blood clot. havent passed one that big in my intire period life. before and after that. it was red, about 1 1/2 inches long to 2 inches and about 1 inch wide. it just look really funny not like a normal blood clot. Could this have been a miscarriage or what. Or is it normal the first time you go on bc. Please let me know thanks!

Although it is always a possibility, the chances are really unlikely that you had a miscarriage. Usually birth control makes periods different, especially the first one. An embryo wouldn’t even get that big in that gestation period so it was probably just tissue. and my doctor told me that you just needed to be on bc for 7 days before you had unprotected sex, though it is always better to wait a month. Im sure your fine unless you started the pill later in your cycle then you were supposed to.

It’s highly unlikely that you were pregnant. It was most likely the hormones from the pill.

I can’t say if it was or was not a miscarriage in this case. That being said, most of us, myself until recently, are not aware that the BC pill can actually cause an abortion. There are 3 ways the pill works…the first two prevent conception, but they don’t always work then the third will happen. The third will allow a baby to be conceived and then cause the uterus to become hostile to the baby and basically kick her out. These crazy birth controls sometimes are just not worth it…they not only can do that they can harm us too..ie bone loss, blood clots, stroke risks, heart problems…too scary for me. My husband and I use NFP (Natural Family Planning)
