A Choice of Hope: When Medicine Said No, but Faith Said Yes
Twenty-two years ago, I sat in a cold, sterile doctor’s office, listening to words that shattered my world. The ultrasound screen was quiet. My doctor looked at me with a heavy expression and delivered a devastating prognosis: my baby wasn’t growing, and he wasn’t moving. With clinical certainty, the medical advice was clear, I should terminate the pregnancy.
In that moment of overwhelming fear and darkness, when science offered no hope, I turned to the only source of strength I had left. I fell to my knees in prayer, begging God for guidance, clarity, and a peace that surpassed all understanding.
That answer came through the hands of a friend who shared Psalm 139 with me:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”
Those ancient words breathed life into my trembling heart. They weren’t just verses on a page; they were a lifeline. I chose to tune out the medical statistics, step out on absolute faith, and carry my son to term.
Today, I look back on that defining crossroads with a heart overflowing with gratitude. The baby who “wasn’t supposed to make it” is now a thriving 22-year-old man. He is a devoted husband, a proud and loving father to two beautiful little girls, and a hardworking provider. Tim is a local county Lieutenant with the Sheriff Department. He oversees Search & Rescue saving people. Most importantly, he walks with a deep love for the Lord.
When the world told me to give up, God showed up. He is faithful, He is a healer, and God is profoundly good.
Lovingly,
Gma Marilyn
