hey everyone, i have a little problem. i’m 18 years old and was recently on antibiotics, which i’ve heard cancels out your birthcontrol. well for the past 3 weeks i’ve been having cramps, like i am about to start but my period isn’t supposed to be until july 24. i also noticed i started craving a lot of chocolate, which is very strange for me since i never touch chocolate to begin with. but my problem is that my bf might be going away, to jail on the 27th (court date) and i thought you were supposed to wait until youre period is over, if you even have one. but i wanted to know before he left, just in case…any ideas..i’m really stuck on this one.. :pinch:July 23, 2005 at 2:00 am #8858JBurks7819
It sound like you are about to come on your period, the signs you are having may be symptoms of pms, However, if you are concerned there are some test that you can take that will detect the hormone first. so take a test to see what happens.July 23, 2005 at 4:10 am #8860Anonymous
If you are asking if you can take a home pregnacy test (HPT) yet, my advice is to go ahead. It can’t hurt, but be aware that you might get a false negative (not pregnant) if you test too early for the pregnancy hormone to be at detectable levels.
I had an unplanned pregnancy at age 20/21 (my daughte is now nearly 13). It took three tests over a two week period before I had an accurate result. One of the false negatives was a HPT; however, the second false negative was a test done at a clinic (which I later learned was an abortion mill –just goes to show the "quality" of care they offered–in the end I was sooo glad that I didn’t find out about my baby in such a horrible place). With my current pregnancy, I suspected that I was pregnant (sore breasts, tired, nauseated), but didn’t even test until my period was a full day late.
In my opinion, the best thing to do is to test now and if you get a negative result, test again in a week. You can get free tests at your local crisis pregnancy center. Meanwhile, take extra good care of yourself (eat well, get plenty of rest, and no alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc.) If you are pregnant, you’ll be giving your baby the best possible start if you take good care of your health now. If you aren’t pregnant, caring for yourself may help with the stress or whatever else is making your period late.
If you are pregnant, don’t be afraid. My life wasn’t ruined by my daughter, it was greatly enriched. Although the baby’s father left me, I had marevelous support from family and friends. Eventually, my daughter’s biological dad became involved in her life. While pregnant/caring for a baby, I worked, finished school, and actually went on to get a master’s degree. I taught college for four years, married a great guy, and am now expecting another child. I can’t imagine life without my daughter (an honor student and star athlete) or the baby now growing beneath my heart. The struggles are all worth it and with God’s grace, you’ll find that people are willing to help you with anything you need.
Good luck and God Bless.July 23, 2005 at 5:03 am #8861Anonymous
I WOULD TAKE A TEST. I TOOK A TEST AN ENTIRE WEEK BEFORE AND GOT A POSITIVE RESULT. IF YOU DOUBT THE RESULT OF THE TEST I WOULD TEST AGAIN IF YOU END UP BEING LATE ON YOUR PERIOD. THIS IS THE BEST THING TO DO AND YOU CANT ALWAYS RELY ON WHAT WEIRD THINGS YOUR BODY IS DOING. YOU MAY BE EATING CHOCOLATE AND CRAMPING BECAUSE OF STRSS OVER YOUR BF’S SITUATION.
