Becky

I just visited your site for the first time.  It is amazing.  My name is Kristal, I am 23 and have wonderful son Ethan that just turned 2, January19th, 2006.  I started seeing my son's father (my husband) Feburary 29th 2003 when I was 20.  We hit it off very strongly and I thought that our relationship was going to go somewhere.  I had never been on birth control before and in a previous relationship that I was in we had tried to conceive but it didn't work so I knew that I wanted kids.

I decided to go on birth control when I got with my son's father because I knew that I did not want kids right then, expecially, with it being a new relationship and all.

On mother's day just a few months later while I was on birth control I fell quite sick and thought that I had the flu. I went to the ER that morning and he was in the room with me.  The doctor asked if I could be pregnant and we both said "no" because I was on the pill.  He said he was going to run some tests for the flu and take blood.  I thought, okay, no big deal just the flu.

My boyfriend went out of the room to get coffee and the doctor come in and shut the door and told me that I was pregnant.  I was speechless.  I did not know what to think.  We had only been together a couple of months and I was pregnant.  I thought for sure he was going to leave and I was never going to see him again and the baby wasn't either. I knew I was keeping it either way. The baby was a part of me and it was mine.

I told him when we got in the parking lot and I started walking away and he said Kristal stop. And I said, what?, and he just hugged me so tight and smiled and said were having a baby.  He was just as happy as I am.

When I was 7 and a half months pregnant we got married and then Ethan Wayne was born January 19th 2004 @3:59am. He was 8 pounds, 20 and half inches long.  He was beautiful and still is.  He is the love of my life.  I never thought that I could have so much love for someone.

The saying is right when it say "a mother's love is unconditional toward her children".

I had dropped out of school when I was 16.  When I found out that I was pregnant it encouraged me to go back to school (adult diploma program) and get my high school diploma so that I could make a life for my child.

I am currently going to college online at AIU and will graduate with an Associates Degree in March 2007 with honors.  I then hope to further my education and receive my degree in Criminal Justice.

Every young girl thinks that life stops when you have a baby or get pregnant.  I just want to let them know that -- it doesn't!

I am living proof.

Kristal

Dear Kristal,

What a beautiful story you have!! It is just so encouraging to see that,  instead of your pregnancy taking away all your dreams...it actually gave you new goals  and dreams and something to work for!! I am so happy to hear that everything is  turning out so well for you and your family. You go girl!!!

Luv,

Becky | dearbecky@standupgirl.com

I also attend AIU. I completed my Associates in Nov, 06; and now I'm working on my BA. It's a fantastic school, with some really great teachers. When I became a mother, I thought it would be impossible to get my degree. Now I have one, and I'm working on another one. The internet was the best invention of the 21st century!
Congratulations on getting yourself started.. in my opinion, that's the hardest part.

hey my name is kayla and i am 18 years old now. i was 15 when i first found out i was pregnant. i was scared to death just like you were. I kept the baby and i had a little girl 2 years ago. She is the most precious thing that has ever happened to me. I know it must have been hard for you to make a decision like you did and i give u a lot of credit for it.My daughter's fauther left me when i was 6 months pregnant and he has only seen her once. He don't pay child support or even try seeing her anymore. He used to but i denied him of seeing her because i didn't want him to hurt her like he had hurt me. Now i am engaged to the most wonderful guy i could have ever met and we are expecting our second child. my daughter also calls him daddy. he has been there ever since she was 2 weeks old and he's as close as she has to a daddy but that's enough with my story. i was writing to let u know how it could have been if you chose to keep the baby. and i am sure u would have been a great mother and i assure u that it is very hard at that age to be a mother and still in school. just keep smiling and take care of urself goodluck in the near future and i hope all goes well. Thanks for sharing the story.

Hey you, it is so great to hear stories like that in fact to know that things like that can still happen...you are so lucky!!! I am also 23 years of age and my son is 1 year and 2 weeks old. His father and I only got back together when NJ , my son, were 9months old. I went trough it all alone, that is why I say you are one lucky girl to have him by your side till now...

Good luck for the future!

Love Niky

I just want to say that your story is very comforting to me. it made me cry. i am currently a sophmore in college as well, and 20 (like you were ) and am pretty positive i am pregnant. my boyfriend and i have also been together about 7 months. Im so glad he was there for you and you were able to get married. that is what we're going to do as well, only he still has two years left at his elite college and is convinced he would have to drop out. i know we're getting married regardless, but does anyone have any suggestions for me? i really dont want him to drop out of college. im scared...

Its incredibly uplifting to read this story where your dreams didnt die just b/c you got pregnant. I'm 5 months and everyone keeps telling me that if I keep this baby my life is ruined and I can never achieve my dreams. I'm so glad your pregnancy worked out well. Best wishes to you all!

Your story has given me encouragement! I am 17 and 9 weeks pregnant... I know that staying in school is the best thing I could ever to for my baby to be born... I have 2 more years left and I will be due just about 2 months before school gets out, I know that it's not going to be easy but I have other people that are willing to support me (which im thanking the good lord for!) I count my blessings and even though I didnt plan to be pregnant God obviously have a plan for me! I continue in my faith with God and i know he will get me throught these tough times!!

Hello Kristal, My name is Alex Sullivan. i am a student at St. Paul Catholic High School. I am doing a project on teen pregnancy and am requesting to use your story in my presentation. i am hoping to use it to show that life and fulfilling your dreams doesn't stop at pregnancy but makes you want to fulfill them all the more to take care of your child and give him/her a better life. If you wish names and places can be changed. thank you for your time.

That was a nice story.. but after reading that I'm a little nervous.. so you got pregnant while on the pill??? I'm 16 and on the pill, my and my bf don't use any other birth control other than that. I take it every day like I'm supposed to; did you not take it correctly or is there still a chance you can get pregnant on it. Like I said, Im only 16 and defff not ready to have a child of my own yet =/

Yes, Ashley, if you are having sex, there is a chance you could get pregnant - even if you are using the pill correctly. The pill reduces the chances of pregnancy, but cannot eliminate them.
