I know that my story is different from many that you will see here,
but I hope that it can help. I too want to share my story so that you
ladies out there know you aren't alone. My husband and I had tried for
several years to get pregnant, going through the beginnings of fertility
treatments. We so much wanted a child. We both cried when we found out
that I was pregnant.
We were all set to welcome our little girl Nadia Joy
into our family this coming August, but the Lord had a different plan for
us. This is our story...
Every girl, every woman, makes mistakes. It’s inevitable. Unfortunately, we put the spotlight on our mistake allowing ourselves to feel shame or to feel inferior to others. But we should turn off the spotlight and only be concerned with whether or not we started making right decisions after our mistakes. No one can change the past. Not possible. Can't happen. We live in the now, and can make the future different than the past. It’s never too late to turn a mistake into an opportunity.
Experience is one way to learn from mistakes, but a much less painful way is to listen to the advice of someone you trust. My dad often tried to drill some dating standards into my head, but when I was in High School I didn't think he could possibly know what I was going through...
I recently had a bout with Lyme disease. We decided to go hiking in the woods and a tick bit me. About two weeks later I came down with some really weird symptoms so I went to see the doctor. He put me on heavy doses of medication and referred me to see a specialist. When I saw the specialist he asked me if there was a possibility that I could have syphilis.
Former supermodel Kathy Ireland, who became famous in the 1980s and 90s for her appearances on the cover of Sports Illustrated, is not holding back.
In a recent appearance on Fox News' "Huckabee," Ireland gave an explanation of her views that host Mike Huckabee said was the most articulate that he had ever heard from any source (see video at http://vodpod.com/watch/1528667-kathy-ireland-on-abortion).
So, it is time to tell your parents you are pregnant. How will you tell them? Will they support you, or will your fears of rejection come true? Here, one mom tells how she felt through her daughter's pregnancy, and offers hope for making it through the challenges in your own story.
It's that time of year again. But as the whole world seems to be dizzy with decorating, spending and cooking up a storm, there are others who aren't catching onto the festive spirit. Some are holding themselves back from all the joy floating around in the air...
This is a story about a dog, who's name is Watson. He's a fairly normal dog (OK, he's unreasonably cute), but he plays a very important role in our family, a role that many think children should play. Still, dogs are dogs, people are people. One shouldn't confuse them.
She's revered as a trail-blazing feminist and author Alice Walker touched the lives of a generation of women. A champion of women's rights, she has always argued that motherhood is a form of servitude. But one woman didn't buy in to Alice's beliefs - her daughter, Rebecca, 38. Here the writer describes what it was like to grow up as the daughter of a cultural icon, and why she feels so blessed to be the sort of woman 64-year-old Alice despises - a mother.
My friend was inconsolable. All she kept saying was, "That boy's mother, that boy's mother." I couldn't imagine how his mother would take the news. It was such a senseless way to die. I'm sure her pain was beyond anything I could imagine. This was her child, her son, and suddenly on this warm, beautiful Sunday afternoon, he was dead.
Radical change came in the '60's and '70's. These decades saw many, many, good changes—the Civil Rights movement, for one, which gave dignity and equality to black Americans. As for sexuality and relationships, perhaps some fresh air needed to be let into the bedroom, where, in the "I Love Lucy" show, Lucy and Ricki slept in different beds. This was the world of appearances, and it's no wonder that both men and women felt a little rebellious, growing out their hair and burning their bras!
